The Cave Study project consists of a series of models. Hard cuboids hold seemingly organic cavities within, only visible from up-close, by peeking through one of the accidental openings.

These models are the result of a two-part research. Firstly into the origin and formation of karst caves, secondly into the dual symbolic understanding of the cave – historically seen as both protective and dangerous.

The models are an attempt to connect the two. They play with size, light and visibility to direct the experience of the viewer. The way of viewing strengthens this experience: the cave fills the field of vision, enveloping the viewer and placing them inside the cave.
